Big Spoon Creamery in Birmingham, Alabama, in an up and coming neighborhood known as Avondale, gives a whole new meaning to the word yummy! Starting in July of 2014 with nothing more than an old-fashioned ice cream tricycle, a few amazing recipes, and a dream, they moved on to a food truck/ice cream truck in 2016 and quickly moved from there to Avondale in April of 2017, with a location opening 50 miles north of Birmingham, in Cullman, Alabama, earlier this year.
Big Spoon Creamery is one of those places that, if you don’t live close by, you are really glad they aren’t close to home! I would be on “My 600 Pound Life” if they were. We go every couple of weeks, warm or cold, as it is! With flavors like Bulleit Bourbon Soft Serve, Coffee Almond Toffee, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Coconut Lime Sorbet, and Vanilla Cake Batter Soft Serve, just to name a FEW, these guys really are showing that they are passionate about what they do. Not sure what you want? That’s ok! Get a flight! Yes, they have a flight of ice cream. You may need some help with it, so bring a friend! One of the awesome things about Big Stone Creamery, other than the wonderful staff and amazing flavors, is that they try to use local ingredients from local farmers. Between that and the homemade cones and cookies for the Sammies, this place is pretty great. Don’t forget, because of the local ingredients, many of these flavors change seasonally, so be sure to stop in often! See you there!!
