Travel Is…

“Travel is…getting to know yourself by facing new experiences.” -Sofie Couwenbergh

For me, travel is my freedom. Being able to jump in the car and drive anywhere in the country, see everything, do anything…this is what makes me happy. Even with recovering from Guillain-Barre I am still ready to jump in the car and go on a road trip at any point in time. And go I do. One trip that is definitely a fond memory was to Lake Lure, North Carolina.

I haven’t totally been slacking on my writing. This one was a little harder to put words to. There is so much beauty and so much to do, it is difficult to put it all together and yet have it short enough to read without falling asleep!

Lake Lure is a little difficult to get to, just because of the twists and turns of the beautiful mountains, but is well worth the work. Our stay at Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Mountains was comfortable, relaxing and the cabin/house was a perfect fit for two families. We opted for a two bedroom with a loft den and had plenty of room for three boys, two girls and two sets of parents. The resort is situated in the Blue Ridge Foothills just southeast of Asheville…a great distance to drive up for the day and see The Biltmore or explore the beautiful mountain locations of The Hunger Games and walk where Katniss walked. While you’re at the resort, have a relaxing golf game on one of the two eighteen-hole courses (if you are a Dirty Dancing fan don’t forget to check out the sixteenth hole on the Bald Mountain Golf Course!), take a swim in one of the two outdoor pools, lounge on the beach by the lake, or grab dinner at one of the resort restaurants. Dirty Dancing fans can also take boat tours and learn some interesting history and facts about the movie and filming locations…of course we took the tour! Did you really have to ask? 😀    Mini-me and her bff kayaked the lake while my husband and his mini-he’s fished. The hiking around the resort is FANTABULOUS!!! Such beauty surrounding you, every where you go. There are beautiful waterfalls within easy hiking distance of the cabins, just be careful on the slippery rocks in the creek! (Love you Lan!)

While we did most of our food cooking at the resort after buying groceries at the closest Ingles, we did enjoy a delicious lunch out at La Strada at Lake Lure and so-so appetizers at the bar and grill on the resort.

This trip is definitely a repeat. I love the family getaways that put the electronics away and allow for family time and being outdoors. With this summer trip, you won’t have to push for the mini-she’s or mini-he’s to go outside because they will already be there! There is so much to see and do, you won’t regret a minute of this one!
